Generics of Zovirax, Valtrex, and Famvir

Currently, there is no treatment that can cure herpes, but antiviral
medications like acyclovir and valacyclovir can reduce the frequency,
or prevent recurrent outbreaks of genital herpes. Acyclovir and
valacyclovir are synthetic antiviral agents with inhibitory activity
agains herpes simplex virus types 1 (HSV-1), HSV-2, and
varicella-zoster virus. They are indicated for the acute treatment of
Herpes zoster (shingles), for the treatment of the initial episodes
and the management of recurrent episodes of genital herpes, as
well as for treatment of chicken pox (varicella). Famciclovir is similar
to acyclovir, but has a prolonged action and can be taken less often.

Herpes

Herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). Herpes
simplex virus can cause oral herpes (small blisters or sores on the
mouth) as well as genital herpes. Genital herpes is a sexually
transmitted disease. The signs appear typically as one or more
blisters on or around the genitals or rectum. When the blisters
break, they leave ulcers (sores). Genital herpes can cause several
outbreaks (symptomatic recurrences).
Herpes zoster is caused by the chickenpoxvirus. Shingles causes
numbness and severe pain followed by clusters of blister-like
lesions on the skin in a strip-like pattern.
